West Coast Canine was established with years of practical real world scenarios. I started working with dogs in 2005 while stationed at Moody AFB, GA. From Moody I went to Lackland AFB, TX where I spent four months at the Military Working Dog Training Course. From Lackland I moved on to Edwards AFB, CA. spending five years as a Military Police K9 Handler. Throughout my time at Edwards, I was able to experience various canine training classes all over the country as well as Military/State partnered missions. Working at Edwards AFB also allowed for the opportunity to deploy on two separate canine missions. From Edwards, I separated the military continuing my canine career at MCLB Barstow, CA. as a civilian K9 Police Officer. While at MCLB, I was introduced to DHS/TSA Canine with a position available at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). I felt this was a great opportunity to separate completely from the military side of dogs and truly learn a whole new way of training. Once I arrived at DHS/TSA I was immediately sent to additional trainings back at Lackland AFB. This training was very different from the usual. The course this time focused on cargo, aircraft, and people. This position is also very unique in that my dog came home with me every nite. So training continued at home as well. Within DHS/TSA the training and joint missions continued, this was just a different application of canine utilization and training.
